ESRI and East View Cartographic Announce MapShop Relationship
MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - March 3, 2003 - East View Cartographic, Inc. (EVC),
a major producer and distributor of international mapping data, signed an agreement with ESRI, the world
leader in geographic information system (GIS) software, to provide international map data sets for ESRI’s
MapShop Web application.
MapShop can be used to create and customize maps for output to an editable EPS file. The application includes
U.S. shaded relief imagery and a detailed world basemap that illustrates specific countries and other points
of interest, locates U.S. addresses, and defines cartographic style preferences. MapShop subscribers have access
to powerful desktop GIS tools and other GIS data that is available through the Web application. Built using the
Geography Network infrastructure from ESRI, MapShop is an affordable way for media outlets of all sizes to create
quality map content and to make geographic information easily accessible by the public.
MapShop allows an authorized user to define an area of interest through a search function, latitude/longitude
coordinates, or by zooming in on any area of a map. Once the area is selected, a user can add layers of information
including boundaries, roads, rivers, towns, satellite imagery, or shaded relief. A user’s design style preferences
can be stored, allowing maps to be regenerated in the user’s unique cartographic style.
