The Federal Islamic Republic of Comoros comprising
the islands of Grande Comore, Anjouan and Mohéli gained
independence from France in 1975. A mapping agency exists
in the capital Moroni, the Direction de l'Urbanisme et de
l'Habitat, which maintains 1:2,500 scale photomaps of the
main settlements, but almost all the topographic coverage
of the islands has been carried out by French agencies.
Soviet military topographic mapping of Comoros is available at the following scales: 1:1,000,000 (2 sheets, complete coverage, published in 1991);
1:500,000 (2 sheets, complete coverage, published in 1987) and 1:200,000 (3 sheets, complete coverage, published in 1985). These products are available in print,
