Topographic

Gibraltar was mapped for the Gibraltar Government by the UK Directorate of Overseas Surveys (now Ordnance Survey International), and a set of contoured 1:2,500 scale maps was published in 1970.

Current large scale maps cover the territory at 1:500 (47 sheets); 1:1,250 (12 sheets); 1:2,500 (six sheets) and 1:5,000 (one sheet), and are produced and maintained by the Drawing Office of the Department of Trade and Industry. The 1:500 scale sheets are currently being updated. The maps are contoured (at 3 m up to and including 60 m, and at 10 m thereafter). Heights are referred to the Alicante datum and the projection is Transverse Mercator with UTM grid, International ellipsoid.

Soviet military topographic mapping of Gibraltar exists at the following scales: 1:1,000,000 (1 sheet, complete coverage, published in 1985); 1:500,000 (1 sheet, complete coverage, published in 1984); 1:200,000 (1 sheet, complete coverage, published in 1991); 1:100,000 (1 sheet, complete coverage, published in 1990) and a city (1:10,000 to 1:25,000) topographic map of Gibraltar published in 1974. These products are available in print, digital raster and digital vector GIS formats from East View Geospatial.

Tourist/Reference

Tourist maps may be obtained from the Gibraltar Tourist Board, including a Gibraltar streetmap guide. Other general maps include a Bartholomew Holiday Map by HarperCollins and a sheet in the Spanish series Estrecho de Gibraltar, published by the Instituto Geográfico Nacional (IGNE). This 1:25,000 scale topographic series is designed to cover the land areas on either side of the Straits of Gibraltar. The series is in six colors with 10 m contours, and is on a Lambert conformal conic projection.
